Chapter 6: A light, bright living room
This room changed everything. When we saw it, our hearts skipped a beat and we were powerless to resist. We got carried away: we saw ourselves sat on our comfy sofa, enjoying this soothing, magical view.
At first, there was very little light, with just two large windows in the roof. In our initial plans, we focused on a large bay window overlooking the valley. As the project progressed and, most importantly, as we understood the workings of our new home, we realised that there was no way to see the sunset from the living room. Can you believe it? What a waste!
That’s when we came up with the idea of a large picture window, with a wide seat, perfect for lounging around and forgetting about the rest of the world. Every evening, we’re treated to a gentle light in shades of orange which we love. This will be a cocooning corner, a place to curl up on a gorgeous sofa with a blanket, opposite a blazing wood-burning stove. While we wait for this “hygge” scene to become a reality, we’ve added this industrial shelving unit which goes perfectly with the style of the house.
