Theme of the MAISON ET OBJET 2020 trade fair: upcycling or the art of taking discarded materials and adding value to them to create new objects. To make new from old is good for the planet and good for our morale. So, to upcycle or not to upcycle?
Beyond simple recycling, upcycling aims to make objects live “their best life”: old plastic bottles become vases, bicycle tyres become belts and roofing timbers become furniture of every sort.
Marked by time, this restored wooden furniture retains certain imperfections… This is only to be expected and is what gives these pieces their great charm and value.
Wood salvaged from old buildings gets a new lease of life in the bedroom or living room. After a hard working life, it certainly deserves an easier future…
But an upcycled material isn’t just recycled… It has lived and that’s what we like about it. It tells us a story, its story. It is worked to lead a new, and maybe even better, life.
Above all, upcycling is about wanting to be involved, to campaign, to design a decor in line with our new environmental concerns… & naturally it’s beautiful, whatever the style.
